The Chronicles of Corcia
The Wyrmhide Empire
The humans have always been a curious race. In the times before the war they were know to be a nomadic race, constantly exploring new areas of the continent. When the war initially broke out most humans worked as mercenary for the other warring factions. Soon these mercenaries began to band together to be able to get the highest price for their soldiers. Eventually the mercenaries came under the command of a man named Darian Wyrmhide, a ruthless mercenary who had fought for the highest bidder, no matter what they stood for. He began to build settlement for his mercenaries to live, that also doubled as fortresses in order to fortify his position. He began to recruit mercenaries of various races, giving him a diverse fighting force able to handle any task. The money he was able to earn from his mercenary force he was able to build a fortress behind a giant wall, allowing him and his mercenaries to live safely behind the walls from any on coming attacks, so they would be fresh and ready for battle. He had also had his mercenaries steal information from the factions that hired them in order to make their own fighting force stronger. They were able to start developing their own technologies based of the best works of the surrounding nations. The once band of mercenaries now became one of the third most power nations on the continent. From one of the villages that grew withing the walls a cleric began to speak out against the war, stating that if it were allowed to continue everything on the continent would be reduced to rubble. He was arrested several times for disturbing the peace, as the nation had gained its power from profiting from the war. The clerics efforts attracted the attention of Darian and he came to see the cleric in jail. It was there that the relationship between the two started, as the cleric began to preach his ideals to Darian, who became fascinated by the clerics stories. Soon he appointed the cleric as his personal adviser, and began to make changes to his empire to better suit the clerics ideals. The goal of the cleric was to get the nation of the dwarves and the nations of the elves to form an alliance with the humans so that between the three of them they could put a stop to any fighting due to the sheer military power of the alliance. The cleric declared that in order for the plan to work the cleric would have to go out alone and try to get the leaders of each nation to join the alliance. Darain was reluctant to accept this plan at first, but agreed when the cleric caved to allowing a single body guard to accompany him. While the cleric was on his mission the Darian retreated to his castle fortress and began to transform his mercenary army into an army of well trained knights suited for a massive empire. One day the cleric had returned and went straight to Darain to tell him that he had managed to convince the other nations to sign the treaty of peace at the monastery in the middle of Corcia. The two swiftly left for the monastery and it was there the Treaty of Peace was signed. Shortly after returning to the empire the cleric fell ill and swiftly passed away, and he was buried in the monastery where he got the three nations to stop the war. Darian went on to father three children and focus his empire on developing a massive navy as a means to explore the new world. He drastically improved his empires production an d trade while still maintaining a powerful army. Each one of his sons have all been groomed to be military leaders, and currently serve in his army. Darian now lies on his death bed, weak and barely able to speak as the empire waits on him to decide which son should take the throne, which will ultimately decide on which direction the empire will take.
